Keira McFleat

Keira McFleat was born in 1965 in Geldrop, the Netherlands, but has lived all over the world. She attended primary school in Bogotá, Colombia, and secondary school in Dublin, Ireland. With an Irish/Austrian background, she married a Dutchman and they moved to New Zealand.

 

Keira acquired an addiction for translating as a toddler, with English, German, Spanish and Dutch spoken at home.

 

She studied English and followed legal translation courses in New Zealand and the Netherlands, passed the English and Dutch translation examinations of the Nederlands Genootschap van Vertalers in 1999 and was subsequently sworn in at the District Court of Middelburg. She has worked in various countries as a freelance translator since then, specializing in legal texts.

 

Having finally settled down as a Scot in the Highlands, Keira, when she's not translating, spends her time with her family, enjoying golf, sailing, hill walking and playing the cello.
