Jenny Johnstone
Jenny translates from French and German into English. Born in the North East of England in 1951 she decided on a career as a linguist when, at the age of seven, she accidently tuned her father’s radio to a foreign radio station and was fascinated by the idea of different languages. She went on to study languages at university and has a Joint Honours degree in French and German, studying in Coventry, Toulouse and Münster. After graduating she went to work for British Nuclear Fuels Ltd. where she set up their translation service, translating all kinds of material covering subjects such as nuclear, mechanical and chemical engineering to press releases, contracts and legal documents as well as managing the service and supervising other translators. She later worked for them as a public relations officer and administrator organising overseas conferences and VIP visits.
When her son was born she left work and set up her own translation business. During her freelance career she has extended her range of experience and is always willing to master a new subject field. Her clients have included large international companies and government departments as well as translation agencies in Europe and small local companies.
Jenny is also a qualified psychotherapist and currently divides her time between translating and psychotherapy. She lives with her psychotherapist husband near Manchester in the North West of England and, apart from her work - which is also a passion - she enjoys reading fiction, doing cross-words and walking in the countryside around her home and farther afield.
